Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited ( ONGC ) is a natural gas and mineral oil company from India with headquarters in Dehradun . The company is listed in the BSE Sensex financial index.

ONGC was founded by the Government of India on August 14, 1956. At the beginning of 2013, the Indian government held a direct 69.2% stake in ONGC, and indirectly via the state-owned Indian Oil Corporation and Gas Authority of India a further 10.1% of the shares, the rest is freely traded on the stock exchange. ONGC contributes 77% to India's oil production and 81% to India's natural gas production.

Under the management of DK Sarraf, the company employs around 33,500 people (as of 2016) and produces around 30% of Indian crude oil. It owns and manages more than 11,000 kilometers of pipelines in India and is the largest Indian company by market capitalization according to the company .
