The Green Lake ( English for Green Lake ) is one of the numerous frozen small freshwater lakes not far from Cape Royds on the Antarctic Ross Island . The lake is located near the coast halfway between Pony Lake and Coast Lake .
It was named by participants in the Nimrod Expedition (1907-1909) under the direction of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton , based on its green color.
