Greg Bartholomew

Greg Bartholomew (* 1957 in Saint Paul / Minnesota ) is an American composer.

Bartholomew studied at the College of William & Mary in Virginia and at the University of Washington . He was a student of composition with David Paul Mester, studied violin with Teo Benson and attended seminars and symposia by Krzysztof Penderecki , George Crumb , Bob Chilcott , Steven Sametz , Robert Kyr , R. Murray Schafer , Tan Dun , Gregg Smit , Hummie Mann , Gloria Swisher and Brent Michael Davids . For more than fifteen years he sang in the Seattle Pro Musica Choir under the direction of Karen P. Thomas .

In addition to the chamber opera Razumow , Bartholomew composed choral and orchestral works as well as chamber music. In 2006 he won first prize at the Orpheus Music Composition Competition with the piece Beneath the Apple Tree for viol and recorder . In 2007 he was a finalist at the Cincinnati Camerata Composition Competition with the choral work Leo . He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), the Washington Composers Forum , the American Composers Forum, and the Society of Composers .
