Gregory S. Lashutka (born March 28, 1944 in New York City ) is an American politician and former American football player. From January 1, 1992 to January 1, 2000, he was the 51st Mayor of Columbus , the capital of the state of Ohio . Lashutka is a member of the Republican Party

Life

Greg Lashutka studied from 1963 at Ohio State University , where he was a football player for the Ohio State Buckeyes . In 1966 he became the Buffalo Bills drafted and remained a year with the team, but where he came in only one reserve team used. Lashutka then ended his active career to devote himself to his studies and graduated as a Bachelor of Science in the same year . He then went on to study law at Capital University , which he completed as a Juris Doctor .

After graduating, Lashutka worked as a lawyer at Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, where he became a partner. He served two terms as City Attorney for the City of Columbus and was elected mayor of the city in 1991. In 1995 he was re-elected. After suffering a heart attack in 1999, Lashutka announced that he would not run for mayor in the next election. Lashutka's term ended on January 1, 2000, and was succeeded by Michael B. Coleman . Shortly after, Greg Lashutka was Senior Vice President of Corporate Relations of the insurance group Nationwide Insurance . Lashutka was also temporarily vice chairman of Franklin University . In 2008 Lashutka resigned from his post and has been retired ever since.
