Gregg McClymont

Gregg McClymont (* 3. June 1976 in Cumbernauld , North Lanarkshire ) is a Scottish politician of the Labor Party .

Life

McClymont was born in the Kildrum district of Cumbernaulde . From 1988 to 1993 he attended Cumbernauld High School and then studied history at Glasgow University . He won a Thouron scholarship, which enabled him to study at the University of Pennsylvania . In 1999 McClymont enrolled at Oxford University , where he received his PhD in history . McClymont was then a lecturer at St Hugh's College, Oxford University.

Political career

Since its inception, Labor politician Rosemary McKenna has represented the constituency of Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East in the House of Commons . When they did not run for the 2010 general election, McClymont was appointed as their successor. With a share of 57.2% of the vote, he clearly won the mandate and subsequently moved into the House of Commons for the first time. There he was a member of the committees for science and technology as well as for trade, innovation and competencies. As of 2011, McClymont was designated Secretary of State for Pensions in the Labor Party's shadow cabinet . He also acted as a deputy whip . After the SNP gained massive votes , McClymont lost his mandate in the following general election in 2015 and left the British House of Commons. The mandate went to the SNP candidate Stuart McDonald .
