Gregor Thüsing

Gregor Thüsing (born April 1, 1971 in Cologne ) is a German legal scholar. Since 2004 he has held the chair for labor law at the Institute for Labor Law and Social Security Law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn and its director.

Thüsing has the venia legendi for the subjects civil law, labor and social law, comparative law and church law. He is the author of numerous specialist publications, a multiple expert in the German Bundestag and regularly writes about current issues in labor and social law in the daily press.

academic career

Thüsing studied law at the University of Cologne from 1991 to 1994 as a scholarship holder of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . In 1994 he passed his first state examination in law. He then worked as a research assistant at the local institute for labor and commercial law and received his doctorate in 1995 as a scholarship holder of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation under Herbert Wiedemann summa cum laude on the subject of The Outsider in Labor Disputes . In 1996 Thüsing passed his second state examination in law. In 1998 he received his LL.M. at Harvard Law School and he was admitted to the bar (Attorney at Law) for the State of New York after passing the bar exam .

In 1999 Thüsing received a habilitation grant from the German National Academic Foundation and the DFG . This was followed by study visits at Harvard Law School, the Sorbonne and the University of Leuven and Maastricht . In 2000, Thüsing completed his habilitation with his work Wertende Schadenrechnung with Herbert Wiedemanns at the law faculty of the University of Cologne.

After an interim position as assistant to the chairman of the board in Corporate Development at Bertelsmann AG , Thüsing accepted a call at the Bucerius Law School . and held the chair for civil law, labor and social law and comparative law from April 1, 2001 to the 2004/2005 winter semester. In March 2004 he also became a lecturer in the International Executive MBA Program at WHU in Vallendar.

Since October 2004 Thüsing has been a professor and director of the Institute for Labor Law and Social Security Law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms University in Bonn .

Other offices

Thüsing worked more than thirty times as an expert at hearings of various committees (Labor and Social Affairs, Health, Family, Law, Europe) for the German Bundestag. He is a member of the permanent deputation German Jurists , the board of the German-American Lawyers' Association, the Advisory Board of Gorres Society, the International Society for Labor Law and Social Security, as well as Deputy Chairman of the Society for Policy and Research eV He is Chairman of the Society for European Social Policy and Deputy Chairman of the Common Ecclesiastical Labor Court in Hamburg. Thüsing is also a board member of the Society for Data Protection and Data Security (GDD) eV
