Herbert Wiedemann

Herbert Wiedemann (born October 21, 1932 in Berlin ) is a German lawyer and professor emeritus at the University of Cologne .

Life

The son of a ministerial councilor began studying law and music at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1951 . He graduated from law school in 1955 with the first state examination in law. In 1958 he was in Munich with Alfred Hueck with a thesis on strike ballot and a wildcat strike to Dr. iur. PhD. After his second state examination in 1960, Wiedemann became a research assistant at the University of Munich. There he completed his habilitation in 1963 with Rolf Dietz with a corporate law investigation (title: The transfer and inheritance of membership rights in trading companies ). In 1965, Wiedemann accepted a position at the Free University of Berlin . In 1967 he moved to the University of Cologne, where he was Managing Director of the Institute for Labor and Business Law until his retirement in 1998.

From 1979 to 1981 Wiedemann was rector of the University of Cologne and in 1966, 1979 and 1986 visiting professor at the University of Berkeley . Since 1981 he has been a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts . In addition, Wiedemann was a part-time judge at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court .

Wiedemann's students include Holger Fleischer , Heribert Hirte , Klaus-Peter Martens , Kaspar Frey , Gregor Thüsing and Rolf Wank .
