Gregory Maguire

Gregory Maguire (born June 9, 1954 in Albany , New York ) is an American writer .

Life

Gregory Maguire holds a PhD in English and American Literature from Tufts University and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University at Albany . From 1979 to 1985 he was Professor and Vice-Director of the Simmons College Center for the Study of Children's Literature . Maguire was also a co-founder of the organization "Children's Literature New England".

Gregory Maguire has three adopted children and is married to the painter Andy Newman. He is a board member of the National Children's Book and Literacy Alliance, a nonprofit advocating education, literature and libraries.

Some of his novels are based on familiar, classic children's stories and are intended for adult readers. Wicked - The Witches of Oz. The true story of the Wicked Witch of the West (Orig .: Wicked. The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West ), also his best-known work, is based, for example, on the children's book The Wizard of Oz by Lyman Frank Baum . It also served as a template for the musical Wicked - The Witches of Oz . Maguire also wrote novels for children.
