Adrian Falub (born July 8, 1971 in Dej , Cluj County ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach . He played a total of 433 games in the Romanian League 1 , the Swiss National League A and the Cypriot First Division .

Player career

Adrian Falub began his playing career at the age of 17 with Unirea Dej in the Romanian fourth division. After a year he moved to the first division club Universitatea Cluj , where he played until 1996. On March 19, 1989 he made his debut in the Romanian first division when playing against SC Bacau . In the 1996/1997 season he played in Switzerland for FC Basel , but returned to Cluj after a year. After another year, Falub moved to league rivals Gloria Bistrița , where he also only played for one season. In 1999 the defender went to one of the most famous Romanian clubs at the time, FC Național Bucharest . With this club, Falub won the Romanian runner-up in 2002. After this partial success, the Romanian moved to Digenis Akritas Morphou in Cyprus , where he ended his playing career in 2006.

Coaching career

One reason for the end of his active career was the offer from his long-standing club Universitatea Cluj to be employed there as a coach. Falub accepted the offer on June 30, 2006 and led the club back to League 1 at the end of the 2006/07 season . Once there, however, he had a very difficult time with his team and was dismissed on October 10, 2007 after ten games without a win. Falub went back to League II and trained there from January 7, 2008 to March 17, 2009 as the successor to Marian Mihail the team of Sportul Studențesc . On April 7, 2009, he took over the post at Unirea Alba Iulia , which had become vacant the day before when Aurel Șunda was dismissed, and led the team to the top of the league in the end. After the 20th day of the 2009/10 season he had to take his hat off in Alba Iulia. A short time later, the FCM Târgu Mureş signed him in the Liga II, which he led to promotion with seven wins in a row. He was then released after the fifth match day of the 2010/11 season and replaced by Ioan Sabau . In October 2010, he took over the training at the second division ACSMU Politehnica Iași , where Ionuț Popa had recently been dismissed. At the end of the season they parted ways again.

In April 2012 he became head coach in Liga II at UTA Arad , which he was in charge of until the end of July 2013. During this time he missed promotion to league 1 twice. He was replaced by Eugen Trică , who he followed again in February 2014. As early as March 2014, he terminated his contract in order to take over promotion candidate ASA Târgu Mureș , with whom he made the leap to the House of Lords. At the end of September 2014 he was released in Târgu Mureș and replaced by Cristian Pustai . At the beginning of March 2015, Falub took over his former club Universitatea Cluj to save it from relegation in 2015 . This failed and in summer 2015 they parted ways again. In November 2015 he succeeded Cornel Țălnar as head coach of CS Concordia Chiajna . He left the club again in the summer of 2016.
