Bright trout on the Danube Canal

Die Grelle Forelle is a house , electro , hip-hop and techno club in Vienna - Alsergrund .

The club was opened in December 2011. It is located on the Danube Canal near the University Center Althanstraße in Spittelauer Lände 12.

The Grelle Forelle consists of two floors: the smaller kitchen floor and the larger club floor, which functions as the main floor. Overall, the club offers space for around 700 party guests. The opening of a terrace added a restaurant to the club.

Due to the strict rejection of preferential treatment for so-called VIP guests, the trout hit the headlines in March 2012 when a member of the jury for the casting show Heroes of Tomorrow was refused accelerated entry. The club's statement on this "scandal" became the most widely read APA-OTS broadcast in 2012.

In the course of the 2013 National Council election , the club clearly positioned itself against the FPÖ with a Facebook posting , whose voters are undesirable in the Forelle , which triggered a discussion in the Austrian media and within the Viennese club culture.

In 2012, the club achieved 6th place in the FM4 readers' poll in the “Club of the Year” category, and in 2013 it came fourth. The readers of De: Bug voted the Grelle Forelle among the top 10 clubs in German-speaking countries in both years.
