Gremanu

The seven hectare nuragic settlement of Gremanu is located near Fonni in the province of Nuoro in Sardinia . It consists of a village of huts and sacred buildings and is surrounded by a large rectangular enclosure .

Among the sacred buildings, the Megaron Temple and the neighboring round temple should be emphasized. The masonry of the two complexes, which were built between 1300 and 900 BC Were used until a residual height between 0.5 and 1.2 m. The temples in the, similarly to the neighboring Su Romanzesu, unusually designed village, probably served a water cult, which is also shown in the other megaron temples that were found at fountain sanctuaries or in nuragic settlements. There are springs nearby which, through a series of canals carved into the rock, supply three wells for religious purposes. The lack of ceramic finds and the few bronze fragments give no indication of the special use of the sources. The temple has a rectangular container and a bank altar inside .

The remains of the four giant tombs of Madau can be found nearby .
