Greta Mathilda Wassberg (born October 5, 1904 in Selånger in Medelpad , † February 19, 1996 in Vancouver ) was a Swedish singer who also starred in several films.

Life

Wassberg has been one of Sweden's popular folk singers since the 1930s, with numerous radio and vinyl recordings. At that time she was married to Kapellmeister Arne Hülphers , with whom she made recordings, some of which were also released in Germany. They were married from 1934 to 1955.

She made the first record in 1932 anonymously with John Wilhelm Hagberg for Parlophone , Kan du vissla, Johanna (Can you whistle Johanna?) By Sten Axelson. There were further recordings in 1932/1933 under the pseudonyms Inga Waller for Decca and Inga Widén for the department store chain Dixi. The recording of Jag kommer i kväll under balkongen (I'll come under the balcony in the evening) from the fun movie Söderkåkar was released, in which she lent her voice to the actress Astrid Carlsson. Her successful interpretations include Två solröda segel , the Swedish version of the American folk song Red sails in the sunset with the Arne Hülphers Orchestra. In the years 1938 to 1942 she also made recordings and tours in Germany. In total, there were around 150 records from her.

She moved to Malmö in the early 1950s. The marriage with Hülphers came from Sigge (1927–1971), who was a pianist and bassist. She later moved to Canada, she died in British Columbia .

The voice reminds you of Greta Keller and Doddy Delissen .
