Grete Sehlmeyer

Grete Sehlmeyer (born November 23, 1891 in Lehrte ; † August 5, 1967 in Hanover ) was a German politician ( DDP , FDP ) and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Life

After elementary school, Grete Sehlmeyer attended an upper lyceum , after which she completed vocational training at the Hanover Municipal Conservatory with a diploma examination. She was active in the women's movement and in social and cultural organizations. She worked in the DDP. She was a member of the board of the Freie Volksbühne. In addition, she was active as a writer and wrote texts on educational and artistic topics.

After the end of the Second World War , she became a council member in Hanover. From April 20, 1947 to May 5, 1955 she was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament (1st and 2nd electoral periods), until April 27, 1954 as a member of the FDP parliamentary group. She left the FDP, which had an increasing number of right-wing radical members from the Naumann circle and the German Reich Party . From April 28, 1954 she was non-attached and from June 21, 1954 member and leader of the newly created Liberal League .
