geography
The 17 km long valley glacier has its nutrient area at an altitude of 1150 m . The 2.6 km wide Grewingk Glacier initially flows in a north-northwest direction, later in an east-northeast direction and ends at a height of 48 m . Below the glacier tongue is a glacier edge lake that drains from Grewingk Creek to nearby Kachemak Bay . The glacial rim lake and tongue are located in Kachemak Bay State Park and State Wilderness Park . Several hiking trails lead to the edge of the glacier lake and to lookout points on the side above the glacier tongue.
The glacier was named after the German-Baltic geologist Constantin von Grewingk .
