Greytown is a city in the center of the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal . It is located on the Umvoti River at an altitude of 1015 meters above sea level. In 2011 it had 9,090 inhabitants. The Umvoti Community Administration is located in Greytown .
history
The village was founded in 1848 by the Land Commission and called Umvoti. In 1854 it was renamed in honor of the Governor of the Cape Colony , Sir George Gray .
In 1906, the Bambatha rebellion took place in Greytown's area of influence . The Zulu refused to pay taxes. These struggles are seen as the beginning of the rebellion against racial segregation .

Acacias have been planted and used for wood production in the Greytown area since the 1890s .
