Grimm Citizenship Lecturer is the name of an award with which the Brothers Grimm City of Hanau and the University of Frankfurt honor people who update, make visible and continue to have an effect on “Grimm's life and work for the present”. The lectureship is linked to a multi-part series of lectures by the award winner at the University of Frankfurt and in the Hanau Cultural Forum .

Award winners

  • At the end of 2016, Dr. Tilman Spreckelsen , literary editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung , honored. In numerous publications he made his research on the subject of fairy tales accessible to a wide audience and made a contribution to the “continued impact” of the work of the Brothers Grimm in children's and youth literature; at the same time his own “narrative talent” was recognized with the award.
  • At the end of 2018, the ZDF editor-in-chief, author and dramaturge Dr. Irene Wellershoff excellent. In the justification, reference was made to the quality of the fairy tale film adaptations she was responsible for and in the fairy tale pearl series as well as her invention of the children's program Siebenstein , with which she inscribed herself in "television history"; Added to this are the restoration of historically valuable Lotte Reiniger films and her own books with the hero Finn as work worthy of awards .

The award was presented by the fairy tale researcher Dr. Claudia Maria Pecher and political scientist Martin Hoppe initiated; it is to be awarded every two years from 2016. The awards were presented in the Hanau Philippsruhe Castle by the Hanau mayor Claus Kaminsky and Prof. Dr. Manfred Schubert-Zsilavecz , Vice President of Frankfurt University. The Grimm Citizens' Lecturer and the associated lecture series are supported by the Brothers Grimm Foundation of the Sparkasse Hanau , the Institute for Youth Book Research at the Goethe University and the Walter Kahn Fairy Tale Foundation .
