Martin Hoppe (born January 15, 1968 in Hanau ) is a German homeland researcher and employee of the Hanau city administration.

Life

education

The son of a Hanau administrative clerk and a wholesale clerk attended the Erich Kästner School in Hanau from 1974 to 1978 and then switched to the Otto Hahn School , where he graduated from high school in 1987. After studying at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, the graduate in administration initially worked as a clerk at the Hanau regulatory and environmental office. In 1994 he began further studies in social sciences (political science, sociology, history and public law) and obtained a diploma in political science from the University of Frankfurt in 1999 .

As early as 1987, Hoppe worked - initially on a voluntary basis - as an assistant in the Hessian Puppet Museum in the design and implementation of the exhibition. On November 1, 1997, he took over the full-time management of the Hessian Puppet Museum in Hanau-Wilhelmsbad as the successor to Gertrud Rosemann . In numerous special exhibitions and actions in and around the arcades of the Wilhelmsbad spa facilities, he presented the representatives of man from prehistory and early history to the present day, expanded the house by 250 m² of exhibition space and set up a cabinet of antiquities. In May 2005, Hoppe moved back to the city administration of Hanau, where he initially worked in the central administration, and from 2007 in the urban development and citizen service department, where he was responsible for town twinning, town history and town identity. In March 2014, Mayor Claus Kaminsky made him head of the newly created Department of Culture, City Identity and International Relations . His area of ​​responsibility includes general cultural administration, libraries, municipal museums, art and culture in public spaces, tourist information and international relations.

Volunteering

Hoppe was the honorary secretary between 1991 and 2001 and chairman of the Hanau History Association between 2001 and 2015 . In this role, he played a key role in driving a number of projects, including the securing and restoration of the gravestones that have been preserved in the German Cemetery on Nussallee, for a Brothers Grimm cultural center and the Moritz Daniel Oppenheim monument in Hanau. He was responsible for numerous exhibitions and over thirty publications. In addition, he took over the editorial management of the New Magazine for Hanau History , the Hanauer Geschichtsblätter and special editions of the History Association and organized a large number of partly international congresses. Due to the new professional task he took on in 2014, he resigned from the office of chairman of the Hanau History Association in March 2015.

Hoppe was a member of preparatory committees for the anniversaries “400 Years of Neustadt Hanau” (1997), “700 Years of Old Town Hanau” (2003), “950 Years of Kesselstadt” (2009), “200 Years of the Battle of Hanau” (2013). He has been a member of the main committee of the Historical Commission for Hesse since 2005 and was appointed to the advisory board for historical regional studies by the Hessian Ministry for Science and Art in 2009. In 2014 he became the successor to Lord Mayor Claus Kaminsky on the board of the association “ Deutsche Märchenstraße e. V. "was chosen.
