Willy Oeser (born February 11, 1897 in Mannheim as Wilhelm Karl Georg Bruno Arthur Oeser ; † October 24, 1966 in Heidelberg ) was a German church painter and glass artist.

Life

Oeser, son of the librarian Max Oeser, was awarded a Dr. phil. doctorate , but is considered self-taught in the practice of art . Essentially, he was devoted to religious topics and was one of the innovators of religious art in Germany after the First World War . During the time of National Socialism his works were described as degenerate ; many of them were destroyed at the time. After the Second World War , he created and designed numerous mosaics , frescoes and glass windows , especially for churches in southwest Germany. The Galerie M. Goldschmidt & Co. in Frankfurt had already presented a selection of his works in 1915 , and works by Oeser have been made accessible to the public in the Berlin National Gallery and in the Kunsthalle Mannheim since the 1950s .
