St. Michael in Grenzach

St. Michael in Grenzach-Wyhlen in southern Baden is a Catholic parish church from the 1950s.

history

The predecessor of today's church was a Kuratie church built in 1905 in neo-Romanesque style. Already her patronage was the holy Michael ; it had two altars.

The current church was built between 1953 and 1957 according to plans by the Basel architect Hermann Baur .

Church building

The church located in the Grenzach district on the thoroughfare is a single-nave rectangular building with a retracted choir and a gently sloping gable roof . A square bell tower stands apart from the main building on the northwest side . The brightly plastered tower is also covered by a flat gable roof in the direction of the nave and has rectangular sound arcades to the north and south . A small cross is attached to the top of the roof.

The ceiling of the interior is adapted to the roof pitch. The colored window glazing in the choir and north gable comes from the Heidelberg artist Willy Oeser, who also created the altarpiece on the south wall. The tabernacle is also on the south wall . It was made of bronze by Leonhard Eder in 1969 . There is a wide gallery on the north side of the nave .

The four-part chime of St. Michael is composed as follows:
