Grindelwald is a place on the Tamar River 19 km northeast of the city of Launceston in Tasmania in Australia . The tourist resort with 965 inhabitants (2016) offers a golf course, hotels and souvenir shops that also offer Swiss specialties.
The settlement, built in the early 1980s by the Dutch entrepreneur Roelf Vos , was built in the style of a typical Swiss village, whose houses with their sweeping roofs, attic storeys in the acute-angled roofs, flower boxes, the appearance of massive exterior compared to the Australian lightweight construction and with some other typical European architectural features clearly stand out from the otherwise usual houses. Anyone wanting to build a house in Grindelwald must adhere to the relevant architectural regulations.
