Gris Nevada Granite

Gris Nevada (Spanish: gris = gray) is a granite from the Spanish province of Lugo . This granite is quarried in a quarry near the city of Guitiriz and was formed in the Prekambian about 900 million years ago.

Emergence

The rock was formed in a pluton of magma that penetrated the upper part of the earth's crust and then slowly crystallized out through cooling at a depth of only a few kilometers below the earth's surface .

Rock description

Gris Nevada is a gray, medium-grain two-mica granite that contains the two mica minerals biotite and muscovite . This creates shiny silver reflections. Variations in color or structure are rare. White veins in the material are made of feldspar and rarely occur. Gris Nevada is considered frost-proof.

This granite has been quarried into medium to large-sized blocks almost all year round since the early 1950s.

use

Gris Nevada has only been exported to a significant extent from Spain since the 1980s . Today, this granite is mainly used in house construction for floor coverings as well as for stairs and window sills indoors and outdoors.

Since granites can be roughened by surface heating due to the high quartz content (so-called flaming), the production of a non-slip surface for the outside area is also easily possible with this rock.
