The Ekstraklasa 2019/20 was the 86th season of the highest Polish men's soccer division since it was founded in 1927. It began on July 19, 2019 and ended on July 19, 2020. It was from December 22 to February 6 interrupted by the winter break. The defending champion was Piast Gliwice .

There were no games between March 10, 2020 and May 28, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Poland . Legia Warsaw won the championship for the 14th time and drew level with Ruch Chorzów and Górnik Zabrze as record champions. Promoted from the first division were Raków Częstochowa after 21 years of abstinence and ŁKS Łódź (most recently 2011/12 ).

The 16 teams initially played against each other twice on 30 match days. The eight best teams then competed against each other once in the championship round and the other eight in the relegation round. In contrast to the previous season, three instead of two relegated teams were determined in the relegation round. An expansion of the league to 18 teams was considered.

    The eight best-placed clubs in the preliminary round reach the championship round, which was not only about the championship but also about the international places in the European Cup . The master takes part in the qualification for the Champions League and the two teams in second and third place in the qualification for the Europa League .
