Groß Hesebeck is a village in the Uelzen district in Lower Saxony . It has belonged to the city of Bad Bevensen since 1972 .

geography

Groß Hesebeck is located east of the Elbe Lateral Canal between Bad Bevensen and Röbbel in the Lüneburg Heath. The Röbbelbach flows through Groß Hesebeck and flows into the Ilmenau at Klein Hesebeck .

history

Groß Hesebeck was first mentioned in a document in 1004 as Hatherbiki in a certificate from Heinrich II. Researchers interpret the current name Groß Hesebeck as the "place on the bush forest". According to the original meaning, Hatherbiki means something like "hasty movement" or "place by the fast brook". Prof. Bückmann, who translates “hatu” = battle, describes Hatherbiki as “place on the Streitbach”. According to this interpretation, the name refers to the battles between Saxony and Wenden that took place in this area at that time.

Since then, Groß Hesebeck has remained a farming village in the traditional sense. The six old farms have been preserved, as has the Kötnerstelle, and some are still being worked on. In 1841 the coupling was implemented in Groß Hesebeck and the land was redistributed among the farmers. This created a forest of interests that was managed equally by the six farmers. In addition, heather areas of 214 hectares were found at that time.

In 1928, the attempt to merge Hesebeck with the neighboring town of Röbbel was strictly rejected by the Hesebeckers. Until 1965, Groß Hesebeck was a fully independent municipality and provided its own mayor. As part of the regional and administrative reform, the previously independent Groß Hesebeck became a district of Bad Bevensen on July 1, 1972.

Today there are over 30 residential buildings in Groß Hesebeck as well as the fire station , the restaurant and the athletes' home in the Vize-Bautsch-Arena .
