The Great Synagogue in Lyon , the capital of the French region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes , was built in 1863/64. The synagogue on Quai Tilsit No. 13 has been a protected architectural monument ( Monument historique ) since 1984 .

The synagogue was built according to plans by the city builder Abraham Hirsch in the neo-Byzantine style.

The Consistoire Lyon and the Grand Rabbi , who is responsible for the region, are based there.
