The Bolshoy Ustinsky Bridge ( Russian Большой Устьинский мост Bolschoi Ustjinski most ) is an arch bridge of steel in Moscow , which immediately above the mouth of the Jausa on the Moskva leads and their two quays. The bridge, opened in May 1938, is 134 m long and 34 m wide. It replaces an arched bridge built in 1881. In addition to road traffic, the bridge also crosses a tram route .

Location and name

The Great Ustyinsky Bridge carries traffic from the boulevard ring across the Moskva River to Balchug Island . In the southern extension of the street there is the Small Ustyinski Bridge , which carries traffic from the island to the Samoskvorechye district . The tram lines 3, 39 and A (status: 2014) drive over the bridge on their section between the final station Chistyje Prudy on the boulevard ring on the left of the Moskva and the Paveletsky train station .

The name of the bridge is derived from the Russian ustje for "estuary" (the Jausa into the Moskva); accordingly, the road leading along the right bank of the Jausa to the bridge is called on the last section Ustjinskaja naberezhnaya, roughly "Mündungs-Uferstraße".

Building

The bridge was designed by the architects GP Golz ( Russian Г. П. Гольц ) and DM Sobolew ( Russian Д. М. Соболев ) together with the engineer WM Wachurkin ( Russian В. М. Вахуркин ). The bridge has no visible pillars. The superstructure is formed by six riveted steel arches, which together weigh 2235 tons.

history

The first Ustjinski Bridge, built in 1881 by the engineer WN Schpeiner, was located a little downstream of the current bridge and had two river piers. The bridge was 125 meters long and 19.2 meters wide.

At the beginning of the 20th century, more and more shallows began to form in the Moskva. The construction of the Moscow-Volga Canal raised the water level so much that the bridges over the Moskva had to be rebuilt and today's bridge was built. The bridge was extensively renovated between 1997 and 1999.
