The Great Balkans ( Turkmen Uly Balkan ) is a mountain range up to 1880  m high in Turkmenistan , Asia .

The "Great Balkans" is located in the western part of Turkmenistan in the Balkan welaýaty province . It rises on the southern edge of the Aralo-Caspian lowlands or on the southwestern edge of the desert lowlands of Turan northeast of the city of Balkanabat (formerly Nebit Dag).

The east bank of the Caspian Sea is 60 to 80 km west of the center of the "Great Balkans"; the western foothills of the high mountains reach up to this large lake. A section of the Karakum Canal runs south past the mountains . The low point between the large and small Balkans is one of only two possible passages for several well-known rivers of the Usboi , which meet here, as well as the branch of the canal to Balkanabad (the branch of the canal to Kizyl-Atrek already branches in Bereket ). A section of the Trans-Caspian Railway runs nearby . The Kopet-Dag Mountains rise south of the canal and the railway line .

The highest mountain in the "Great Balkans" is the Arlan (Arlan dagy) at 1880  m .
