from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grand Prix of the Socialist Countries was a regularly held track cycling event and part of the calendar of events of the Union Cycliste International (UCI), which was held in the GDR , the ČSSR , Poland and the USSR .

history

The competition for track sprinters was held for the first time in 1975 by the cycling federations of the GDR ( Deutscher Radsport-Verband der DDR (DRSV) ), Poland (PZKol) and the ČSSR and continued until 1990. It consisted of a series of competitions of individual grand prizes, which were then combined into an overall ranking (according to a point system). To the series were initially the Grand Prize of the German Democratic Republic , the Grand Prix of Poland and the Grand Prix of Brno and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic . In 1979 the Grand Prix of Tbilisi (also Aeroflot Grand Prix ) was added in the USSR. The first winner in 1975 was Benedykt Kocot from Poland, then the sprinters from the GDR dominated. The last winner was Bill Huck in 1989.
