Michael Schulze (cyclist)

Michael Schulze (born June 24, 1966 in Cottbus ) is a former German cyclist and junior world champion in cycling .

Athletic career

Schulze began cycling in the BSG Lok Cottbus in 1975. He was a specialist in short-distance races on the track , especially sprinting . His biggest success was winning the sprint train at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships of the juniors in 1984 in France . After entering the GDR performance class , he won the traditional Grand Prix Framar in his first year in the men's category . He was considered a great talent, but was ultimately able to stand up to domestic competition from Lutz Heßlich , Bill Huck and Michael Huebnernot enforce. Nevertheless, as part of his missions for the national team of the GDR, he won some grand prizes for railroad sprinters such as the 1987 Grand Prix of Poland , the Grand Prix of Tbilisi and the overall ranking of the Grand Prix of the socialist countries (which consisted of several tournaments in four countries). In 1986 he won the sprint competition at the Grand Caracol (later held as the Cali Grand Prix ) in Colombia . He achieved podium places at such traditional Grand Prix tournaments as the Grand de Prix Paris  (third in 1989) or the Grand Prix of Copenhagen (third in 1986 and 1990).
