The Große Tonteich (also known as Körbiskruger Tonsee ) is a body of water in the municipality of Bestensee in the Dahme-Spreewald district in the state of Brandenburg .

location

The water is in the northeast of the district . To the east lies the Körbiskrug district of the Zeesen district of the city of Königs Wusterhausen . To the south-east is the Dolgenhorst residential area in the Gräbendorf district of the Heidesee community . This is followed in a clockwise direction by the further residential area Siedlung am Dolgenhorst, the Bestenseer district Pätz and the community center. The federal highway 246 passes to the south, the federal highway 179 to the west . Immediately on the western bank is the Neu Kamerun residential area (near Königs Wusterhausen).

History and use

The lake is not of natural origin. It originated around 1900 when numerous brick factories were being built in the region . This was also the case in 1895, when the Heise & Schrobsdorff brickworks mined clay in the vicinity of Pätz to manufacture bricks . After the extraction of clay was stopped, the holes filled with groundwater. This is how the small clay pond to the south was created next to the Großer Tonteich . The latter still belongs to the Dahme-Heideseen nature park , the large clay pond no longer counts.

In the mid-1990s, during a study of the water quality, experts found that the lake should be classified as nutrient-rich. The reason was untreated sewage from the neighboring settlements. This condition has meanwhile improved through a connection to a central sewage disposal system in the 2000s.

The lake is used as bathing water and for fishing. There are two campsites with a nudist facility on the southern bank . There is a hiking trail around the lake, which is marked with a green dot on a white background.
