Grand Ducal District Office (Karlsruhe)
The Grand Ducal District Office is an administrative building in Karlsruhe , Karl-Friedrich-Straße 15. It originally housed the state district office of Karlsruhe and is now used as the Karlsruhe-Marktplatz police station.
Significance in terms of architectural history and urban development
The administrative building of the district office was built in 1900 according to a design by the architect and high-ranking Baden construction official Josef Durm . The facade is designed in the neo-renaissance style - this was the first building on the market square to break up the uniformity of the classicist buildings.
The building stands on the central axis known as Via Triumphalis , which extends from Karlsruhe Palace to Ettlinger Tor . The town hall and the Evangelical City Church are in the immediate vicinity .
