The Grand Lodge Humanitas Austria (also: Grand Lodge Humanitas of mixed Freemasonry for men and women ) is a liberal Masonic Grand Lodge in Austria and a member of the supranational associations CATENA and CLIPSAS .

history

The forerunners go back to the interwar period , when two lodges of the order Le Droit Humain were already working in Vienna . These were the Lodge Trust since 1922 and the Lodge Harmonie since 1928. After Austria's annexation to the National Socialist German Reich in March 1938, the lodges were dissolved, Freemasonry banned and their members persecuted. After the Second World War , Austria was occupied by the Allied powers. After the conclusion of the State Treaty in 1955, the occupying powers left the country. The still living members of the Lodge Harmonie of the order Le Droit Humain could then resume work.

In 1959 tensions arose within the order of Le Droit Humain , which resulted in the departure of several lodges in Germany and Holland from Le Droit Humain . In Austria, too, several members of the Harmonie lodge resigned and, with the help of the Frankfurt Lodge Goethe zum Flammenden Stern , founded the Austrian independent Masonic lodge Lux Danubiana on November 10, 1960 . In July 1961, the Lux Danubiana Lodge was a founding member of the international Catena Freemasons Union . This is an international association for mixed freemasonry . Obediences from Germany, France, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Spain and Austria are currently represented in this union . Catena serves to maintain international contacts and does not exercise any authority over the member organizations, which remain independent Masonic associations.

Subsequently, new lodges were founded, so that finally in 1972 an obedience independent of Germany ( Humanitas Germany ), the Austrian Order Humanitas, could be established for mixed freemasonry for men and women . From this order the Grand Lodge Humanitas Austria of mixed Freemasonry for men and women emerged in 1978 .

In 1989 he joined the international freemasons association CLIPSAS . In terms of composition, about one third of the members are currently brothers and two thirds are sisters.

Members

The Grand Lodge Humanitas Austria currently (2014) comprises three lodges in Vienna that work according to the rituals of the Scottish Rite .
