description

Central bronze figure and group of sculptures to the side

The central 15-meter-high bronze statue shows Kim Il-sung in his younger years with jodhpurs , boots and binoculars in his right hand. To the right of the statue at the edge of the monumental square is a 50-meter-high tower, on the top of which is a representation of a torch, comparable to the tower of the Pyongyang monument of the Chuch'e ideology . A group of sculptures can be seen to the left of the statue. It bears the name "Trumpeter on the march" and shows an armed trumpeter made of granite. Several soldiers going into battle are grouped around him. Further groups of sculptures are to the side in the background of the central Führer statue. There is also a stone tablet with an engraved poem on the area.

About a hundred meters away is the Paektusan Museum , which documents the resistance against Japanese rule over Korea from 1937 to 1945.

Comparable monuments

To the northeast of the monument is the Battle Victory Monument in the Musan area . It also serves to commemorate the battle that took place in the region in 1939.

In various cities in North Korea, there are also several other monuments that are stylistically and architecturally similar to the Samjiy Großn monument , such as the Mansudae monument in Pyongyang , which also has a central bronze figure of Kim Il-sung in a comparable dimension alongside other groups of sculptures and in 2012 by a Kim- Jong-il statue has been expanded. In the city of Kaesŏng , too , there is a bronze monumental statue of Kim Il-sung on its highest point, Mount Chanam.
In Kanggye , the capital of Chagang-do province , there was also a monumental individual statue of Kim Il-sung, which was supplemented by another statue of his successor with the official unveiling on October 11, 2011. The figures also show Kim Il-sung with binoculars in his right hand and an outstretched left arm and Kim Jong-il with an anorak blowing in the wind.
