from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The megalithic graves near Gagel were two megalithic graves from the Neolithic deep-engraved ceramic culture near Gagel , a district of the Altmärkische Höhe community in the Stendal district , Saxony-Anhalt . Both were destroyed in the 19th century.

location

The two graves were not far from the northern outskirts of Gagel and were close to each other.

Research history

The two systems were first documented in the 1830s by Johann Friedrich Danneil . When the great stone graves of the Altmark were taken up again in the 1890s , Eduard Krause and Otto Schoetensack discovered that both graves had been completely removed in the meantime as part of the separation .

description

Grave 1

Grave 1 had a stone enclosure with a length of 10.7 m and a width of 6 m. When Danneil took the picture, only four stones of the burial chamber were left in the center of the complex. It was therefore no longer possible to determine the dimensions of the chamber and the type of grave.

Grave 2

Grave 2 had a stone enclosure with a length of 10.7 m and a width of 6.6 m. When Danneil took the picture, only remains of the burial chamber were left. A tombstone was still there, but it fell down. Here, too, it was no longer possible to determine the dimensions of the chamber or the type of grave.
