from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The megalithic graves near Heise were two megalithic graves from the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Heise , a district of Hollen , a town in Beverstedt in the Cuxhaven district ( Lower Saxony ). There is a description of the graves from 1840; at some point in the following years they were destroyed.

location

Grave 1 was near the village in the moor on a slight sandy hill. Grave 2 was about 50 paces (almost 40 m) north of this.

description

Grave 1

Grave 1 was a north-east-south-west oriented passage grave . It was 4.67 m long and 2.33 m wide. It had 10 wall stones that protruded an average of 0.58 m from the earth. Four capstones rested on them. In the middle of the south-eastern long side was the entrance, which consisted of two pairs of wall stones.

Grave 2

Grave 2 was oriented east-west and originally had twelve wall stones, one of which was missing around 1840. There were still three of the capstones left. The type of grave cannot be determined with certainty on the basis of this information, but due to the size it can only have been a large dolmen or a passage grave .
