Hollen ( Low German Hollen ) is a place in the unified municipality Beverstedt in the Lower Saxony district of Cuxhaven .

geography

Local division

Hollen consists of the districts Hollenerkamp (old settlement core), Dreieinigkeit, Bei den Bauern (old town center), Schulstrasse, Alte Reihe, Neue Reihe, Am Felde, Martensreihe, Sühne, Fuchsberg, Hollenerheide as well as the places created during the moor colonization by Jürgen Christian Findorff Heise and Oberheise .

Rivers

To the north, the Lune flows on the boundary between Stubben and Düring and to the west of Heise, the small river Gackau , which is popularly known as the floodplain , flows. It flows into the Lune and at the time of peat extraction, with its connected canals, was the transport route for the peat barges from Kransmoor , Heise and Oberheise to Bremerhaven and Bremen .

Extension of the local area

A few decades ago, Heise and Oberheise were still a separate municipality called Heise, but they were eventually incorporated into the municipality of Hollen. As a tradition, Heise still has his own shooting club. The volunteer fire brigade has also been retained in view of the expansion of the districts. Hollen is one of the larger towns in the Beverstedt community.

history

Hollen is mentioned for the first time in 1105 in a document from Archbishop Friedrich I of Bremen in connection with the Bramstedter Church. Today Hollen belongs to the parish of Lunestedt. At least since the Thirty Years' War, Hollen belonged to the Office of Hagen, which existed under Swedish, Hanover and Prussian rule until 1885 and then became part of the Geestemünde district. In 1927, Hollen - Heise and Oberheise are still independent in the Geestemünde district, Hagen district court , Freschluneberg post office, Wesermünde-Land tax office. In 1932 this district became part of the Wesermünde district , this in turn in 1977 in the Cuxhaven district.

Incorporations

On July 1, 1968, the previously independent municipality of Heise (with Oberheise) was incorporated into the municipality of Hollen. In 1971 the municipality of Hollen became one of the nine member municipalities of the integrated municipality of Beverstedt .

Since November 1, 2011, Hollen has been a place in the unified municipality of Beverstedt.

Culture and sights

Sacrificial stone in the Hollen forest

Sacrificial stone

The so-called “ sacrificial stone ” lies in the circular firs, which is no longer easy to find today . Several attempts at splitting from previous centuries have not been able to split this stone. In the 1930s there was a forest hut that was a popular hiking destination.

Buildings

  • Dutch windmill in the district of Heise

Museums

The Jan vom Moor and Klappstau Museum in Heise is located on the road between Hollen and Wittstedt. It was inaugurated in 1998 and traces the history of bog colonization. Right next door there is a 120-year-old Galerie-Holländer-Windmill, which was restored on a private initiative. The blades hardly turn, but you can visit the mill and often drink coffee in its shade on weekends.

The school museum is located in the former Heise school in the district of Heise. A class has been set up there and many objects from school history can be seen: maps, primers, school books, exercise books, etc.

music

The marching band is represented here for traditional celebrations such as the Schützenfest. For the wilder version of a concert there is a rock band called Six Tons.

Sports

Hollen has an unusually wide range of sports facilities for a place of this size. In the middle of the village there is a sports field, right next to it is the training room for the marching band and the successful flag waving club (by the way: The German flag waving championship took place in Beverstedt in 2008, organized by the miners' club Hollen); there is also the new multi-purpose hall, which was completed in 2004 and in which a lot is offered. For example: volleyball , table tennis , badminton , aerobics and other sports. There is also the Hollen shooting club, which practices its shooting sport in a shooting hall in the Hollenerheide district.

economy

Many small businesses are represented in Hollen (e.g. a hairdressing salon, a company for construction elements), but also the headquarters of the Wesermünde-Osterholz machine ring. The IT company and system house Iqbal is located in the district of Heise.
