Great stone grave Groß Chüden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Groß Chüden large stone grave was a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic deep engraving ceramic culture near Groß Chüden , a district of Salzwedel in the Altmark district of Salzwedel , Saxony-Anhalt . The grave was destroyed around 1869.

The grave was overlooked when Johann Friedrich Danneil took the first complete survey of all the major stone graves in the Altmark in the 1830s. Even Eduard Krause and Otto Schoetensack who carried out a re-inventory of the Altmark megalithic tombs in the 1890s, did not mention its existence. It is only mentioned in a find report by Karl Gädcke from 1894, according to which it was destroyed about 25 years ago to extract building material for foundations. The exact location of the grave is not known. There is also no information on the orientation, dimensions and type of grave. There is said to have been a fire place near the grave.
