The large stone grave Odoorn-Noorderveld 1 was a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic western group of the funnel cup culture near Odoorn , a district of Borger-Odoorn in the Dutch province of Drenthe . It was destroyed at an unknown time. Its remains were archaeologically examined in 1984 . The grave bears the van Giffen number D32c.

location

The grave was north of Odoorn, east of the Exlooerweg. There are numerous other large stone graves in the vicinity. 1 km west-southwest is the Odoorn stone grave (D32), 1.4 km northeast the Exloo-Zuid stone grave (D31), 2.1 km south-southeast the Valthe-West stone grave (D34) and 2.9 km south-southeast the Valthe-Zuidwest stone grave (D35). Several destroyed graves are also known from this area. The Odoorn-Noorderveld 2 stone grave (D32d) was located 1.2 km south-southeast, the Odoorn- Westeres stone grave (D32a) 1.9 km southwest and the Valthe-Valtherveld stone grave (D33) 2.1 km south-southeast .

Research history

The exact time of the destruction of the tomb is unknown. Archive photos from 1929 show the site without any stones. In 1984 the remains of the grave were archaeologically examined under the direction of Jan N. Lanting .

description

The complex was probably an aisle grave . During his excavation, Lanting was able to determine that the burial chamber was about 5 m long and between 1.8 m and 2 m wide. It consisted of four pairs of wall stones on the long sides and one end stone each on the narrow sides.

Finds

Lanting's dig yielded only a few finds.
