Jan Albert Bakker

Jan Albert Bakker (born November 4, 1935 in Breda ) is a Dutch prehistorian .

Life

Bakker began studying Prehistory and Protohistory at the Universiteit van Amsterdam in 1957 . Between 1968 and 1970 he led the excavation of the large stone grave Drouwenerveld (D26) near Drouwen . In 1972 he received his doctorate on The TRB Westgroup, Studies in the Chronology and Geography of the Makers of Hunebeds and Tiefstich Pottery. Until his retirement in 2000 he taught and worked at the Institute for Prehistory of the Universiteit van Amsterdam, most recently as universitair hoofddocent (corresponds to the German Academic Council or university lecturer ) for Prehistory of Northwest Europe.

Bakker has been a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Sciences since 1990 . His main research interests include the funnel beaker culture with its megalithic tombs, the early Neolithic Vlaardingen culture , the middle and late Bronze Age in West Friesland and the archeology of Gooiland .
