The large stone grave Osterby was a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Osterby in the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde in Schleswig-Holstein . It bears the site number LA 11 and was archaeologically examined by J. Kühl in 1969 .

location

The grave was in a field north-northeast of Osterby. There were originally other large stone graves in the immediate vicinity : the preserved large stone grave of Windeby is located about 800 m east-northeast . The destroyed large stone grave Kochendorf was located 1.3 km north-northeast .

description

The complex had a north-east-south-west oriented megalithic bed with a length of 44 m and a width between 15 m and 16 m. At the edge of the bed, a wall-like bed made of pebbles with a width of 0.6 m, and in places up to 2 m, was found. South of the middle of the bed was the burial chamber . It was a north-west-south-east oriented extended dolmen , which was created in a 0.5-0.6 m deep pit. The chamber consisted of two pairs of wall stones on the long sides and two wall stones on the narrow sides. The north-western end stone took up only two thirds of the narrow side and thus left a 0.5 m wide access to the chamber at the south-western corner. Cap stones were not preserved. The entrance to the chamber was marked by a 0.4 m high threshold stone. A pack made of thin stone slabs was found in front of him. The gaps between the wall stones were with flint - Grus been backfilled and small pebbles. A pack of roughly hewn flint had been piled up around the chamber, about three-quarters of the way up the wall stone. A layer of pebbles , 0.6–0.7 m thick, was laid on top . The chamber pavement consisted of several layers: at the bottom there was a layer of stone slabs, above that was a 2 cm thick layer of cracked flint, then a 5 cm thick layer of unfired flint and on top, probably from a later use phase, a layer of yellow-brown gravel. This was followed by the filling of the chamber, the material of which is not available.

A cross-edged arrowhead was found in the layer of cracked flint . Some fragments of a funnel beaker come from the backfill .
