The large stone grave Seehausen was a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Seehausen , a district of Oberuckersee in the Uckermark district ( Brandenburg ). It was probably destroyed in the 18th century.

location

According to Johann Christoph Bekmann , the grave was between Seehausen and Bertikow , not far from the route between the two places at that time.

description

Today only an oval hill 2 m high remains of the complex. A recess could indicate the position of the completely destroyed burial chamber. At the foot of the hill there is a single stone. It is unclear whether it originally belonged to the large stone grave.

The chamber was oriented north-south to Bekmann and had three wall stones; the south side was open. The capstone was already missing. The largest stone was 6 feet (1.9 m) wide and protruded about 3 feet (0.9 m) from the earth. The empty spaces between the stones were covered with spandrel masonry made of small stone slabs. A large ceramic vessel (“urn”) surrounded by small stones and filled with sand and bones was found in the chamber.

Ewald Schuldt and Eberhard Kirsch classify the complex only generally as a large stone grave, Hans-Jürgen Beier sees it as a presumed ancient dolmen .
