Great stone grave Wieschendorf

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The large stone grave Wieschendorf was a megalithic grave complex of the Neolithic funnel cup culture near Wieschendorf , a district of Dassow in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg ( Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ). It was removed in 1836 and examined in the process.

location

The exact location of the grave is not known. There was a ( Bronze Age ?) Burial mound near it .

description

The grave had a pile of mounds 30 feet in diameter . The hill was interspersed with numerous small stones. At the bottom of the hill was a northeast-southwest oriented burial chamber with an outer length of 10 feet (about 3 m) and a width of 6 feet (about 1.8 m). The interior was 7 feet (about 2.3 m) long and 2.5 feet (about 0.8 m) wide. The chamber had two stones on the long sides, one end stone on one narrow side, two end stones on the other narrow side and two cap stones. Of the two capstones, one was made of reddish granite, the other of bluish granite. The bluish stone had several bowls . Ernst Sprockhoff classified the grave as an enlarged dolmen , while Ewald Schuldt classified it as a large dolmen . The floor of the chamber was paved with small stones. There were no longer any clear skeletal remains, only a white, calcareous vein that was interpreted as a bone remnant. Grave goods were also not found. The only find was an unprocessed piece of flint .
