Robert Beltz

Robert Beltz (born March 14, 1854 in Nordhausen ; † May 19, 1942 in Schwerin ) was a German prehistorian who worked mainly in the area of ​​the former state of Mecklenburg .

Life

He was the son of the manufacturer Robert Beltz and his wife Pauline nee Forstemann.

In 1927 he and Wilhelm Unverzagt were one of the founding members of the so-called "Burgwall Arbeitsgemeinschaft", which in 1927-29 also developed the first Burgwall card index for Mecklenburg . From 1910 to 1930 Beltz was head of department at the Schwerin State Museum. He retained the office of the preservationist for prehistoric monuments.

His research on the typology of prehistoric primers was important . Using a questionnaire, he recorded finds from all over Germany. He did not always know the pieces from his own experience, which resulted in incorrect determinations.
