Great stone grave in Zuchau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zuchau large stone grave was a Neolithic megalithic grave in Zuchau , a district of Barby in the Salzlandkreis , Saxony-Anhalt . It was destroyed in the late 19th or early 20th century.

Research history

The grave was examined in 1881 by C. Dietze in the presence of Friedrich Klopfleisch . At this point it was already badly damaged. The results of the excavation were published by Gotthard Neumann in 1964 .

description

The complex had a mound in which the burial chamber was located away from the center. This was oriented north-northwest-south-southeast and had a length of more than 5 m, a width of 2 m and a height of 1.5 m. It was made of granite - boulders built and owned three wall stones to the long and each have a capstone on the narrow sides. The presumably four capstones were all removed during the excavation. Since no access to the chamber could be established, it should be addressed as a large dolmen .

A cultural assignment of the complex is not possible, as neither burials nor grave goods were found during the excavation. In addition to the large stone grave, a reburial from the Bronze Age was discovered within the mound .
