The Gronaustadion (also: Gronau Stadium ) was a football stadium with an athletics facility in Bonn . Among other things, football matches and athletics events were held in the stadium.

history

The Gronaustadion was located in the Bonn district of Gronau . In 1949, around 20,000 visitors came to the Gronaustadion for the national celebration of German youth and German sport. The stadium served the Bonner FV (BFV) and its successor Bonner SC as the home ground. It was also used by the FC Bundestag for a long time . On April 12, 1961, members of the Bundestag competed in a charity game against celebrities from politics, the press and television.

In 1967 the city of Bonn sold the Gronaegelände to the federal government for 98 million marks, part of which was used to build the North Sports Park . In 1970, Bonner SC left Gronau and from then on played in the new Sportpark Nord. After that, the stadium in Gronau served smaller Bonn football clubs as a home ground, and the rugby department of Bonner SC and the footballers of the Bonner Jets played their home games there. In autumn 1989 the Gronaustadion was demolished. The Schürmann building and the Post Tower were built on the site of the stadium .
