The Gross Hills are a series of rugged hills and peaks east of the Schmidt Glacier , to the northeast of the Pioneer Heights in the West Antarctic Heritage Range . The 1060 m high Courtney Peak in the northern part is one of the peaks of the Gross Hills . Ziegler Point is located on the south-eastern side of the Gross Hills .
They were named after the geologist and expedition member Barton Gross by the Geological Expedition of the University of Minnesota , which explored the area in the summer of 1963/64 .
