Controversy in Russia

On October 29, 2013, the Russian public prosecutor brought charges against the popular opposition politician Alexei Navalny on the basis of a complaint by Yves Rocher Vostok, the Eastern European subsidiary of the cosmetics company . He and his brother Oleg were accused of fraud and money laundering. If convicted, Navalny faces ten years in prison. Various media, including Novaya Gazeta , accused Yves Rocher Vostok and his then General Director Bruno Leproux of having made a false report and thus supported political repression in Russia. Yves Rocher was subsequently called for a boycott in Russia.
