The Bruno II mine is a former non-ferrous metal ore mine in the Bensberg ore district in the Loope district of Engelskirchen . At times it was also called the Neu-Moresnet 16 pit . The mine field was in the vicinity of Niederhof .

history

The Bruno II mine was muted for the first time on August 8, 1859. This led to an award on December 26, 1859. Obviously there had been disagreements; for on November 10, 1860, further negotiations took place, which resulted in a renewed decision on May 25, 1861. This was followed by the award of copper , zinc , iron and pebbles on June 26, 1861 to the " Société Anonyme des Mines et Fonderies de Zinc de la Vieille-Montagne " founded in 1837 by the Belgian banker and industrialist François-Dominique Mosselman .

Operation and facilities

Nothing is known about the first period of operation. Around 1900 the pit was opened up by two shafts . Shaft I had the year 1900, shaft II the year 1906 as the date of commissioning. Mining was carried out on the 51- meter level and on the 91-meter level. The dismantling was stopped again in 1908.

In 1924 the mine was put back into operation. A three-kilometer-long cable car carried the conveyed material to the processing plant of the Castor mine for further processing . In 1926 the pile was 7,350 tons. With increasing depth the flow decreased so that the operation was stopped in 1931.
