The Heiligenthal mine is a former non-ferrous metal ore mine in the Bensberg ore district in Overath . It was south of the village of Wiedenhof in Heiligenhaus .
history
The engineer Karl Clauß zu Overath made the first speculation on lead ore under the name Habsburg on September 10, 1854 . On December 9, 1854, he expanded his speculation under the new name Heiligenthal to include copper ore . In accordance with his application, the award document was issued to him on July 28, 1855 . In July 1866, the pit field , which had previously been awarded as a length field, was changed into a square field . The new owners on September 17, 1892 were the AG for mining, lead and zinc production in Stolberg and in Westphalia, and from January 31, 1939 the Altenberg company .
Operation and facilities
The point of discovery was in a sieve with a small stream between the villages of Wiedenhof and Burgholz. Mining took place at the Rose-transition, the transition passage Plattner Heiligenthal and. On May 18, 1857, the mine received permission to set up two steam boilers and a steam engine. In the period from 1853 to 1881, 15 tons of lead ore and 10 tons of copper ore were mined.
