The pit Margaretha Josepha is a former calamine -Grube of Bensberger Erzreviers in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Gronau district .
history
Due to a Mutungssgesuchs of 12 July 1848 was carried out ceremony of the mining area on March 22, 1849 on calamine . On February 24, 1850, a steiger and six tusks and reel pullers were employed to carry out experimental work. The company report 1851 shows that one employed a steiger and eleven workers; in 1852 there were a steiger, five tusks, eight tugs and a sheath boy. On January 21, 1854, a machine shaft is mentioned that had been put into operation. This shows that a steam engine had been set up to better pump the water out of the pit. No information is available about further operational activities.
Location and relics
The Margaretha Josepha mining field was stretched out in the area between Buchholzstrasse and Odenthaler Strasse. The main operating point of the mine was south of the railway embankment between the Gronauer church and the street Am Kuhlerbusch . Today there is a beautiful adventure playground among other things. Relics of mining are no longer to be found.
