The pit Schmitz Heide is a former calamine -Grube of Bensberger Erzreviers in Bergisch Gladbach . The site belongs to the Sand district .
history
Due to a Mutungssgesuchs of 22 March 1893 was carried out ceremony of the mining area on June 20, 1893 calamine . In 1894, the mine operator carried out expropriation proceedings against the widow Albert Pfeifer because he wanted to sink a shaft on her property and erect company buildings. In a letter dated December 24, 1900, an Albert Pfeifer addressed the “Oberbergamt Köln” under the letter “Leder-Fabrik zu Bergisch Gladbach, founded 1827” with the request to check whether he could buy this area back. The work had ceased since March 24, 1894, the day of the expropriation. The company has now completely fallen into disrepair. It is not known what happened to this request. There is also no information about further operational activities.
Location and relics
The Schmitzheide mine was in the Sand district. From Sander Straße there is a footpath to houses Schmitzheide 8 and 8a. Here, some gardens from other houses border the Schmitzheide settlement. In this area the mining activities took place. All traces of mining have disappeared through the development.
